Hello! My name is Sophia Olsinski and I'm a recent graduate from the University of Florida. I have always had a passion for working with kids, from leading youth programs and summer camps to taking an internship in early childhood development and individual work through nannying. I have experience working with children of all ages as well as children with special needs.

A little bit about me, I am the oldest of five children so I've grown up helping care for them. I enjoy spending time outdoors and with family every chance that I get. Board and card games were a staple of my childhood and my enjoyment of them has continued well into adulthood!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have served within youth programs for over nine years assisting with the curriculum development, preparation, and teaching. These programs often had 25 to 40 kids weekly. During the summer of 2021, I served as head counselor for St. Edwards water camp. This required leading a classroom of 20 to 25 kids ages 5-10 while maintaining their safety in the water as well as guiding the other counselors and volunteers through their duties. I completed an internship in Early Childhood Educational Development to further my knowledge on how to best nurture children's brain development.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I greatly enjoy spending time outdoors with any family I work with. Its an activity that all ages enjoy, whether it be taking younger children on a walk in the stroller or going to the park with older kids. When working with younger children I enjoy doing different developmental activities and turning fine motor skills into games. Spending time with older children I love introducing them to games I played as a kid. Storytime is another activity that I greatly enjoy doing with all ages.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked on a consistent basis for one girl who has fetal alcohol syndrome. Continuing to support the behavioral analysist's program while doing activities with her and her sister was the primary focus of this work. Activities included going to the beach, arcade, as well as spending time at home playing games or completing homework.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of the boys I nanny for was talking about his school and different teachers. I told him a little about how my classes work at UF and he just looked at me with a surprised look on his face. He then asked in shock, "You go to school?" When I answered yes his response was, "I didn't know parents went to school!" I laughed but then realized how important nannying is. Many of the kids view you as an extension of their parents, making it crucial that I'm working my hardest to provide a good role model and follow their parents' example to ensure they have consistent rules and values.
