Relevant experience where I also cared for children were…I worked as a camp counselor for 6th graders for 3 years. I helped plan activities for the day, chaperoned them on trips and excursions, and helped with day to day issues campers had. I worked with some students with behavioral issues and followed parent-given plans when required.
Activities I enjoy doing with children…As an educator, my favorite thing to do outside of the home is to visit the library or local museums. I enjoy making fun moments educational. I also love playing outside with kids, especially when we can incorporate more enriching activities like chalk or water play! Inside, I love to come up with creative crafts or do some collaborative cooking with kids.
The most important part about being a nanny…Being able to grow your relationships with a family is the best! I love that for each family I have worked for, we have maintained some kind of relationship that has allowed me to continue to see kids grow. I also have learned that, no matter the phase, kids are only one way for so long. It is amazing to watch kids through all their phases, and it is something I love to be apart of.
My experience with special needs children…I have worked with children with behavioral issues and autism spectrum disorder in a group setting, but not individually.
My favorite nanny moment…With the family I have most recently worked for, I got into a daily habit with the precious little boy who I watched. Every day he walked me to the driveway and waved and yelled "goodbye, see you tomorrow" until he could no longer see my car. I would honk occasionally and stick my hand out the window to wave as I drove away. I so looked forward to his sweet little "see you tomorrow" every day!
