A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Lara Wallace I grew up in Orem, UT where I received a BA in Art Education, K-12, and have taught full-time at all levels for the past 13 years. I was a stay-at-home mom for over 20 years and raised 6 kids before teaching. I’m currently a grandma to 3 and an empty nester.   I just turned 50, I’m very active, I love to be in the sun and in nature, taking hikes, and watching the sunrise and sunset and paint landscapes. Other hobbies, include playing the guitar, board games, and reading. I have a passion for health and make healthy tea blends and smoothies. My family says I make the best pies, bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, chicken noodle soup, and Indian food. I used to decorate cakes. And have cooked for Saint Scholastica, a monastery for nuns. I keep a super clean, organized home.

I have a lot of experience working with kids of all ages and have had two kids on the autism spectrum. I collect children's books and love to foster children's creativity.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was the oldest of 7 kids and babysit for my family. I was the neighborhood babysitter and was babysitting all the time. I had three boys and three girls who lead wonderful lives. My oldest had to do multiple therapies and was home-schooled for a while.

I’ve taught Sunday school most of my life. I volunteered in my kids classrooms to help kids read. I’ve also volunteered teaching art in elementary schools that did not have art programs. My husband and I had an art studio in our basement in Orem and taught after-school and summer programs. After my kids were all in school I started teaching art full time at seven schools: two elementary, two high school, and three middle schools. I’m known for my work ethic and dependabilty. I have wonderful report with my students.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to read stories, playing games, going to the park,taking walks adn hikes, exploring museums. Feeding and taking care of animals, making art, doing fun experiments, picnics in the park, researching insects and nature, cooking simple meals and yummy treats, dancing to music, I love to sing songs, make crafts, do hair, I also cut hair.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Good relationships and positive connections foster better behavior management, higher self-esteem, better communication skills, and more engaged learning. I think it's important that a nanny truly cares and is committed to good communication and teamwork. Kind and honest in their interactions and mutually respectful.

My experience with special needs children...

I subbed in St. Joseph school District for a year where and specifically in the special ed room where I was requested alot. I also taught students who had disabilities in my classroom. They ranged quite a bit from wheelchair, to not having hands, blind. The bulk of students on IEPs that I worked with were mostly students who were students who could not read and write, or think or follow directions well. I’ve seen it all. I’m happy to say that everyone was able to have success in my art room.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I’ve never been an official nanny. But my favorite moments in the classroom are where students ( who normally don’t like art) will come to me and tell me that they were so pumped about their photography unit that they are working a job to buy their own camera because they were so inspired by their experience. Or they learn something and then do more of it at home. Being a nanny is very similar to being a teacher. People trust that I’m going to take good care of their kids. I always put my best foot forward and I’m always happiest when the kids are successful and engaged.
