Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
As a teenager and college student I worked as a live-in nanny for 2 families. I also did childcare regularly with other children during that time. Later, I worked at a couple of child care centers in Vermont with typically developing children.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love being outside with kids and discovering the things they are interested in out in nature. I love doing all kinds of arts with kids, and cooking, eating, listening to music. I love playing with kids, what ever it is they want to play. With infants and young children I love doing sensory types of things and allowing them to explore and experience their worlds in all the ways that are interesting to them. I love to follow children's lead, see what interests and excites them, then plan things I know they will love.
I'm very good at giving my full attention to children and being with them doing what they want to do, which is a luxury. I know parents have so many pressures, with work and homes to take care of, they don't always have the time to devote to playing with their kids. I am grateful I can offer that to kids.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Is making sure children are safe and content, which means their caregiver is emotionally responsive, and providing age appropriate activities that are stimulating and fun. Engaged, active, happy children are a joy.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked for many years with special needs preschoolers when I was young and lived in Brooklyn NY. I moved to Vermont in the early 90s, and have worked doing childcare in centers and for the bulk of my career, I worked as an Early Interventionist/Developmental Educator with the Early Intervention Program serving infants and toddlers and their families. The children in the program either have developmental delays or a medical condition that can lead to delays. I feel my experience prepared me very well for providing care to any child with special needs of any kind.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love how easy it is to laugh with children. I love to laugh and feel that laughter with children is so good for everyone. I love being part of kids' joy. I have been blessed and honored to have shared so many, many favorite, precious, joyful moments with so many children through my lifetime. I find that the younger a child is, the more access they have to their joy and that is what I love about spending time with children--finding and sharing in their joy. I am so grateful to all the families who have shared their children with me in one way or another.
