I was watching a 5 year old who was emotional about her struggles regarding coloring a picture in inside the lines. I proceeded to color the picture I was working on outside the lines and said I loved how unique I made it and it is ok if it is not perfect. From then on, every time we colored she would tell herself she was happy with the way the picture turned out even if she did not color it completely inside the lines. I will never forget the impact such a small gesture had on this child and her confidence in her work.
