A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Heather. I’m a mom of 4 wonderful daughters, ages 8 to 25, and have spent my life caring for little ones! I was a labor and delivery nurse for 13 years and loved supporting moms and babies during those special first moments. I also spent 5 years as a foster parent caring for infants and toddlers under age 2. For the past 6 years, I have owned & operated a childcare center with around 35 kids, & I had an in-home daycare prior to that.

Caring for babies has always been my passion! I will provide trusting, nurturing care to your baby in my home or yours.

I’m a registered nurse, CPR/First Aid certified, a non-smoker, and love animals. My background check to work with kids at the daycare is clear.

I’m available for as-needed or drop-in infant care in the mornings and afternoons, and can be flexible with my days.

I love that I can specialize in infant care as my area of focus & I truly look forward to meeting you and your little one!

A little bit about me

Caring for little ones truly is what makes me feel whole as a person. I’m energetic, active, and love keeping kids moving and engaged, whether it’s games, outdoor play, or fun activities that get them exploring and learning. I’m patient, reliable, and naturally great at building trust with both children and parents. Being around kids energizes me, and I take pride in creating a safe, nurturing, and happy environment where they can grow, play, and thrive.

A little bit about me

I am 13 but turning 14. I want to work with younger children but not too young like less than 2 years old. The oldest I will babysit for is around 8 or 9 years old. I would probably work best between May through August for summer break. However I can work other months it's just your going to have to tell me when and a week before so I can make sure my schedule is clear. Also I can't swim, I can't make food with a stove or oven yet, I am learning, so if you could leave already cooked stuff for the children/child that would be great so I could just heat it up in the microwave. Also I don't mind working with special needs.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Valparaiso, IN

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Valparaiso can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Valparaiso Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Indiana?
  • Do you have a Indiana driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
