A little bit about me

My name is Valerie and I have 5 (mostly grown)kids of my own, 2 of which have already moved out. I have been a stay at home mom for about 22 yrs! About 5 yrs ago my eyes were opened to the fact that my kids don’t need me at home so much. She was a great neighbor and friend of mine, who opened my eyes, and once I said, it’s true, she offered me up to friends of hers who were looking for a nanny for their infant. I got my CPR certification and I haven’t looked back. I’ve had situations where I was part of the week with one family, part with another. I worked just 3 days for a couple in town on business. I stay as flexible as I can because I know that to have children your world is constantly changing. We have just moved back to MI and I am very much looking forward to meeting new families.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Earth Science and because life is quirky, I worked in Advertising .I am open to all ages, but especially enjoy some good baby time!

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Hamburg Township, MI

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Hamburg Township Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Hamburg Township? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Hamburg Township?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MI? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
