A little bit about us

We live in Cornelius NC, and we have 2 kids (10yrs & 16yrs). We are seeking a “sitter” who can take the kids to school and can pick them up (they go to Community School of Davidson). After pick-up, they can be taken back to the house to play, grab a snack or do homework. 3 Times a week they may have soccer practice (usually starting at 5:15) at Bradford Park. Occasionally, they may have other events – like cross country practice – or we may run into a teacher’s day off, so we would like to see if the sitter may be able to play with them during those days. The 16yr old is self-sufficient, but the 10yr may require some playing time/socialization and be driven around.

What Are After-School Nanny Jobs?

After-school nanny jobs are part-time positions that cover weekday afternoons, usually from school pickup until early evening. They fit nannies who want a regular schedule, students, and people with other commitments in the morning.

Types of After-School Nanny Jobs and Responsibilities

Typical duties include school or bus-stop pickup, snacks, homework help, activities and lessons, and sometimes dinner. Some jobs include a few mornings or school holidays too. Check the school pickup time, the days per week, and whether driving is required.

How to Interview for After-School Nanny Jobs

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here are some questions you should ask:

  • What time is school pickup, and which days do you need care?
  • Will I drive, and is a car seat or vehicle provided?
  • How do you handle early dismissals and school holidays?
  • What are the children's activities and routines?
  • Is dinner or light housekeeping part of the job?

Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
