A little bit about us

We are looking for a dependable and engaging caregiver to help with before- and after-school care Monday through Friday for our elementary-aged son. We live close to his school and need someone who can arrive between 6:30 and 7 am., help him get ready for the day, and take him to school. In the afternoons, we need someone to pick him up from school and bring him home, with care typically needed until no later than 7:00 p.m. and often earlier.

Reliability, clear communication, and consistency are especially important to us. We are looking for someone who is comfortable following established family routines and communicating with us directly if plans ever need to change. We already have separate care arranged for our toddler. We also have a dog, so being comfortable around dogs is a plus.

Our son is curious, creative, and loves science, math, and building things. We would love to find someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with school-aged kids and is willing to be actively engaged with him after school—whether that means helping with reading and writing, working on homework, playing games, building projects, getting outside, or simply talking with him about his day.

We occasionally have school holidays that require additional coverage. We are hoping to find someone looking for a consistent, long-term role who communicates well and can become a steady part of his routine.

What Are After-School Nanny Jobs?

After-school nanny jobs are part-time positions that cover weekday afternoons, usually from school pickup until early evening. They fit nannies who want a regular schedule, students, and people with other commitments in the morning.

Types of After-School Nanny Jobs and Responsibilities

Typical duties include school or bus-stop pickup, snacks, homework help, activities and lessons, and sometimes dinner. Some jobs include a few mornings or school holidays too. Check the school pickup time, the days per week, and whether driving is required.

How to Interview for After-School Nanny Jobs

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here are some questions you should ask:

  • What time is school pickup, and which days do you need care?
  • Will I drive, and is a car seat or vehicle provided?
  • How do you handle early dismissals and school holidays?
  • What are the children's activities and routines?
  • Is dinner or light housekeeping part of the job?

Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
