A little bit about me…

Hi! I’m Hannah. I’m a recent newlywed. I was more involved in nannying and babysitting in my early 20’s and loved every second of it. Since having children of our own is a ways off I’d enjoy getting back into childcare; I miss the silliness, optimism and developmental aspect of caring for kiddos. Montessori teaching methods and books have been of recent interest. I’m fully vaccinated and would appreciate families who follow current Covid guidelines.

A little bit about us…

My husband (Jacob) and I (Kathleen) have a 2 month old son. I am a fisheries biologist that will return to work the first week of June when my maternity leave ends (Eli will be 3 months), and my husband is an arborist. I work a hybrid schedule and my husband works remote but often needs to visit job sites. To start, we are looking for someone to watch our son Eli on Mondays and Wednesdays for about 4 hours each day where on Wednesdays I will be working from home. We also would love to find someone that might have some flexibility in their schedule to babysit for unexpected hours as needed.

We’re looking for someone to engage with Eli and keep him company :)

We also have cats and a senior dog that are not your responsibility but will be around!

How to Hire a Nanny in Ridgefield, WA

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Ridgefield, WA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Ridgefield Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Ridgefield? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Ridgefield?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in WA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
