More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've babysat for infants, toddlers, and kids since I was fifteen. I'm the oldest out of four kids, and ten grandchildren so I've always had the responsibility of leading the pack. I also have three godchildren that I adore and have helped raise into wonderful kids. I also have professional experience working with school-age children. I'm currently working as a Paraprofessional with a special needs student.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Some activities I've enjoyed doing with young children was creating sensory bins with different objects from nature, sound tubes, finger painting, story-time, sing-a-longs, filling a baby pool for water play, making outdoor potions by creating slime or foam with shaving cream, and simply running around and playing outside!

The most important part about being a nanny...

What matters most to me about being a caregiver is the ability to see the time I've put into a child, make a difference. Being able to be a source of care and love.

My experience with special needs children...

I've babysat and lived with my autistic godson for two years. Being consistent, sticking to a schedule, and figuring out non-verbal ways to communicate helped overcome many challenges. The student I currently work with has ADHD as well as a learning disability. Taking breaks in the middle of the day, giving her time to talk and disperse energy, and working on breathing exercises when she gets anxious have been of great use.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moment as a nanny happened while I was caring for my godson. It was challenging knowing when he needed something because he wasn't speaking or giving any responses when asked something. After doing some research I figured I could try to teach him non-verbal responses. A simple nod up for yes, or a nod to the side for no. Whenever I asked him something I would keep doing the same motions myself, showing him how to answer. After a few months, I wasn't sure that this was the best method and thought of other options. One day when asking him if he was hungry after playtime he nodded his head up for yes! I was so excited I must've asked him three more times just to see him keep doing it again.
