A little bit about me

My name is Abbigail and I have been working with children for about seven years now. Child learning and development is my passion, ensuring their saftey, comfortibility, and happiness is my game!

As the oldest teenager in my household, I would babysit my four siblings (two of which have down syndrome, one of which ADHD, and one of which Dyslexic).Through this, I learned I enjoyed nurturing and caring for others while also teaching them important school and life skills.

I began working at an after-school program and once I graduated highschool, I pursued a higher education in early development and education. During COVID, I took a leave from the afterschool program to work a year for a local daycare in need of emerency leads. In 2022 I acheived my Associates in Elementary Education.
Upon receiving my Associates, I became a long-term sub for the school who held the afterschool program. I completed my subing obligations and soon began my current full-time job, a teaching assistant!

"I’ve known Abby for a few years now, and she babysits for my sons on the weekends or the rare date night. They absolutely love her and are so excited when they get to spend time with her. She’s so caring, patient, and has a natural way with kids. I never have to worry, when they’re with her I know they’re safe, happy, and well cared for. Abby has such a big heart, and it really shows in the way she treats each child. I couldn’t recommend her more."

"Abby is an incredible woman whose dedication to our elementary school’s after-school program has touched the lives of so many children and families. She devoted herself to the children with genuine love, kindness, and compassion every single day. She was always dependable, arriving on time, taking initiative, and never hesitating to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. What makes her truly special is the way she connects with children. She has a God-given gift for making every child feel seen, safe, loved, and important. She celebrates their successes, comforts them through challenges, and believes in each of them wholeheartedly. To her, this was never just a job—it was her calling. Every child whose life she has touched is better because of her care and guidance. She is an extraordinary person with a servant’s heart, and I recommend her with complete confidence, knowing she will continue to make a lasting difference wherever she goes."

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

2018: Began tutoring/ caring for children in after-school program.

2020: Took leave of absence from the after-school program during COVID to help a local daycare with their lead school-age position.

2021: Came back to the after-school program and actively pursuing higher education.

2022: Graduated with my Associates in Elementary Education. Became promoted to afterschool program's assistant coordinator.

2023: Began to long-term substitute for the local elementary school, while also helping lead the afterschool program.

2024: Accepted a teaching assistant job, continuing work at the afterschool program.

2025: Continued my career as a teaching assistant.

2026 (May): Made the tough decision to move from Kentucky to Ohio. This is where I’ve began to pursue child care once again, though daycare, babysitting, and nanny work during the summer. I’ve enjoyed it so much, I’d love to continue full-time throughout the year!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to get children's creative side out. Indulging in art projects helps to stimulate the brain, encourage fine motor skills, and displays social/emotional learning. Creating is also a great way to communicate and get in-touch with what's happening in your child's brain.

I also love outdoors activities. I like to make big messes! BUT only with the fundamental understanding of being responsible for our actions. In this case, you make a mess, you help clean it up! If we went outside to flip a rock and examine the bugs underneath, I would encourage (not force!) the child to explore their world and interact with it. If you get dirty hands or shoes, that's okay! Now, we get to learn how to take care of ourselves and clean it up!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Keeping your child(ren) safe, comfortable, and happy within the bounds of age appropriate learning, content, and boundaries,

My experience with special needs children...

In my personal life, I have two sisters (twins) who have Mosaic Down Syndrome. I also have a brother who struggles with ADHD and focus. My last sister also has a learning curve through her Dyslexia. Each of my siblings either has an IEP or a 504 plan. These are factors that I have grown up with, so I have a great undertsanding of levels of ability, accomadations, and scaffolds needed to learn.

Growing up in a large family is likely what inspired me to help develop and raise the next generation of children.

That being said, I work in a title 1 school where the need for patience and understanding is high. As a teaching assitant, I work 1 on 1 with the students who need extra help. Primarily, I assist the students who have learning delays and different abilities. This includes Autism, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Language Barriers (translating from Spanish to English on a Kindergarten scale), Speech Impediments, general developmental delays, and anything else that comes at me!

The most important part about being a nanny...

At our school we have group leads from a program come teach our students about the arts, science, and physical education. Kind of like taking your child to dance class, but free and more accessible to the public.

During this time, a student of mine got up to practice a ukelalee version of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". I've worked with this student from the ages of 3-4 in daycare, then in afterschool program from K-2nd grade, and also in the class I long-term subbed for.
In short, I've known this child for over half his life and have gotten to work with him at each stage of my career.

I was remembering all this, yet tears began to swell as I heard the cohesive notes of the song. HE WAS PLAYING IT! His first time picking up an instrument and it clicked for him! It was a truly magical moment for everyone. It made me realize that these are the moments I'm here for. To know I took part in helping this child become where he is today is to know that I'm making a difference.
