A little bit about me

I just graduated from Westmont College in Montecito, California with a degree in psychology. I love to cook (especially breakfast foods) and stay active. I am also very passionate about mental health. I am the oldest of my family, so I have spent a lot of time taking care of my younger sibling and cousins. I also have experience working with special needs children as a behavioral technician. I know how to tend and adapt to a child's specific needs, and approach certain situations in a way that they will be most comfortable with and receptive to. I am willing to cook, meal prep, clean, or do pretty much anything around the house. I can also tutor children in any subject or help them work through any homework they have. I am looking for a consistent, full-time position. I get lots of joy working with children, and I would love to start as soon as I can!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am very familiar working with children of all ages. In my most recent job, I worked as a behavioral technician, where I was trained in applied behavioral analysis (ABA). There, I provided one-on-one ABA therapy to special needs children in their homes. I also worked at a summer camp for many years as a camp counselor where I got experience working with children of many different ages and backgrounds. In addition, I am the oldest child of my family, so I am very familiar with watching and taking care of kids. When I was asked to babysit, I would cook for, clean up after, and play with my sister and younger cousins.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I like doing anything with children that involves creativity or imagination! This can be art projects, going outside, or playing board games. I also really enjoy reading books and watching movies with kids, and I especially love seeing how invested they get in them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The two most important aspects of being a nanny for me would be ensuring the child's safety and creating a welcoming and comfortable environment. I want the child I am caring for to feel as though they have a friend they can come to, depend on, and trust. I also want the parents to feel at ease leaving me with their child(ren), so I try to establish clear boundaries and good communication early on!

My experience with special needs children...

I worked with children with developmental disabilities when I was working as a behavioral technician. I taught functional, executive, and communication skills through data-based intervention methods. I know how to engage with children that have autism, and I am sensitive to and aware of how they perceive their environment. I also gained insight into the learning process, specifically how to teach new skills and reinforce adaptive ones.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One moment I can never forget was when I was working with one of my special needs kids. I had been working with him for about two months, and he was just starting to recognize and become comfortable with me. When I first started working with him, he was very shy, had difficulty recognizing those around him, and did not enjoy engaging with new people. However, I remember one particular session, I first noticed a shift in his temperament and behavior. The second I walked into his house, he greeted me with the biggest smile and gave me a hug. He also called me by my name for the first time. This moment meant a lot because it showed me that our work together was making a difference in his life, and I think just knowing and witnessing that gave me an overwhelming sense of joy.
