I worked with young children of differing ages in the Sunday school and camp programs my Church put on, I found I enjoyed being around children and helping them to develop their own independence and personality while also providing a safe and comforting presence that they can depend on.

I love to let the children lead play as much as possible, I simply encourage them to show me whatever they are excited about, whether that’s their drawing skills, a new toy, or a favorite book. On nice days I do try to encourage outdoor play for kiddos who are old enough. I sincerely believe it fosters creativity, better stimulates learning brains, and allows time to soak in fresh air and sunshine.

Developing relationships with the children so that they feel comfortable and cared for. For many young children being without a parent is an anxiety-inducing experience, I try to focus that energy into something else until eventually they forget to worry.

I used to watch a family with several young children, one of whom was always asking me to read to him. Once the baby was down for a nap and his brother was busy watching TV we would cuddle up in a large armchair together and I would read his favorite books over and over again.
