As a swim head coach I spent my days guiding and encouraging kids while making sure everyone stayed safe and confident in the water. Working closely with both the swimmers and their parents helped me build strong relationships, and many families began asking me to babysit outside of practice. It felt like a natural extension of coaching since I already knew the kids, their personalities, and their routines, and I loved being someone they were comfortable and excited to spend time with beyond the pool.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love staying active with kids and playing sports together, whether that is swimming, soccer, tag, or just running around outside. I also enjoy planning fun outings to interactive places like water parks, playgrounds, and the aquarium, so they can explore and learn while having a good time. At home, I like reading together, coloring, board games, and music time, so there is always something creative and engaging to do without relying on screens.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny to me is always putting the children’s safety and wellbeing first. I make sure to follow the parents’ rules and routines closely so there is consistency and trust, and then build fun around that structure so the kids feel happy, comfortable, and excited while they are in my care.
My experience with special needs children...
I have had some really meaningful experiences working with children with special needs. I worked closely with a child with Down syndrome and focused on patience, encouragement, and keeping routines consistent, so he felt comfortable and confident. I also taught swim lessons to a child with autism who was initially afraid of the pool. We took things very slowly and built trust step by step until he was comfortable putting his face in the water and blowing bubbles, which was a big moment for both of us.
In addition, I volunteered at my school’s special education-run coffee shop, the Cafinated Cat, where students practiced real-world skills like taking orders and interacting with customers. It taught me how important clear communication, understanding, and a calm environment are for helping every child succeed.

The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite nanny moments was when a little girl I babysat every week dressed up as me to surprise me. She put on a skirt and an athletic tank top, added a necklace like mine, and finished it off with sunglasses. I helped her pull her hair into a bun like mine, and when she turned around, she proudly said, “Ta da, I’m you now. See?” It was such a sweet reminder of how closely kids watch the people they trust and look up to.
