Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been baby sitting since the age of 12 and nannied all throughout college! I was a full time nanny for 2 years until I stepped into the Public School space. I worked as a para (teacher's assistant) in a self-contained autism classroom for 3 years, and then was a teacher in a self-contained classroom for a year. I am now back in school pursuing a Master's in Education.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy going to the park, coloring and painting , swimming, and whatever the child loves doing the most! Being in their element is the most enjoyable and the easiest way to guide and bond with kids in my experience.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is tending to their development as functioning humans. As a nanny, my values are centered around making sure that every child is being emotionally and physically taken care of. Some of these include: teaching kids how to understand their emotions and how to react appropriately while still validating their feelings, teaching them how to set and respect boundaries, challenging them in ways they may not have the confidence to do themselves yet, and being a safe space for them to be themselves.
My experience with special needs children...
I was in a best buddies program in high school where I worked closely with a special needs girl throughout the school day and supported her. I am comfortable around special needs children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment is hearing from a child that they genuinely enjoy spending time with me and feel loved (because, you know, children are very blunt). I am also very proud to say I have successfully potty-trained 2 toddlers!
