I took a boy I watch to a indoor rock climbing gym.I took him twice and the first time he went he was very nervous about the height so I would hook him and me to an auto belay(it stops you from falling and lowers you slowly if you were to slip on the wall)and coach him on how to get up. He would only go halfway up a 25 ft wall that time. The next time I brought him I put him on a wall with a normal belay(if you slip off the wall you stay where you are till the person on the ground lowers you)as soon as he realized he wouldn’t go anywhere if he let go he instantly climbed the 25 ft wall and wanted to go to another wall. I showed him what walls he could climb and he picked one that was 40ft tall. 10 minutes later he was up the wall and back down. I’ll never forget the smile he had when he got down from that wall after getting over his fear. It always makes me smile when I think of it because I’ll always be so proud of him for that.
