I was a part time babysitter for a family with 2 girls starting when they were 6 months and 3 years, once the girls were of school age, I helped for the occasional date night.
I also aided a family with 3 girls ages 4, 2, and 8 months occasionally for up to 12 hours when the parents needed to run errands or have date nights.

On days we can't go outside I love playing age-appropriate board games, reading, and coloring.
On nice days, I love to take the kids swimming, for walks, or even just to sit outside and play with chalk or bubbles!

The most important part is being patient. Kids love to test the limits, especially when a new caregiver steps in, so being patient while they learn those boundaries is important.
My experience with special needs children...
I was formally a paraprofessional, so I have experience with middle school aged children with learning disabilities and autism.
I also have a 10 year old aunt with down syndrome, so I have experience in helping her with outdoor activities and playing.
Besides those direct experiences, I have other family members within my age range with disorders such as Aspergers, Tourettes, and epilepsy.

My favorite memory was when I was working at a middle school, and one of the students - who I had babysat when she was 5 and I was 13, recognized and remembered me.
