A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Alexis! I love children but don't have any of my own yet. As the oldest of 4, I grew up caring for and helping raise my younger siblings while our parents worked. I have a lot of experience with special needs children, as my sister is autistic and has a developmental delay. As a result, I was heavily involved in her care, education, and extracurricular activities. I volunteered at events she was involved in, as well as Special Equestrians on the weekends. Being so involved in the community also afforded me the opportunity to babysit many of the children I was around. Aside from that, I was a live-in nanny for over 2 years for 3 children including 1 girl and 2 boys. One of the boys was an infant at the time I began. If you'd like to ask me any questions, feel free! Also, if you're interested, you can send me your email and I can send you my resume. I look forward to hearing from you!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Live in nanny, vet tech, special equestrians, other events with special needs children.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing anything science or art related, cooking with children, and I make it a point to learn about their interests and spend time with them doing the things they enjoy.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me there are many important parts about being a nanny. Of course the very first priorities are the health, safety, and well-being of the children. Next I'd say forming a bond and getting to know each other are very important. After those things I think creating a routine that includes whatever needs and activities each individual child requires. Making sure that everything we do is as fun, educational, and exciting it can be is also a necessity!

My experience with special needs children...

I have an autistic and developmentally delayed younger sister who is my #1 best friend! I was (and am) very involved in all aspects of her care as well as volunteering at many of the events and programs she attended. Through my involvement with those I met many other children with various special needs and their parents who used me as their babysitter. Also, when I was in highschool, I was a teacher's aide in the special needs classes for my electives.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My top favorite moment was when I realized that the kids trusted, loved, and felt safe with me as they were going through a very difficult time when I showed up. I have a few others as well: *helping one of them learn to read and with her other homework because she felt self-conscious in front of her mom
*bonding with the "problem" child and discovering he was no problem at all, he just had different needs and soon after he became better behaved without losing any of the qualities that made him so wonderful and unique
*on my day off the mom arranged for her friend to watch the (1 at the time) baby and all he did was cry so friend brought him home after 3 hours and gave him to me and he ran to my arms and almost immediately fell asleep on me
*we'd have slumber parties in the living room and we'd watch movies and eat snacks and joke around all sleep on the floor
*finding out the mom named her 4th child after me
