Hi! My name is Alexxis. I’m 21 and I go to school full time online at Appalachian state where I am pursuing a degree in social work. I currently work as an EC TA at an elementary school. I have very flexible availability! I am able to work after 4 on weekdays until summer then, i will be 100% available! I believe children learn the most through play so I am very involved in hands on activities such as going to the local library, public parks, aquarium, zoo, and pool. I think it is important that children have the space to explore and express themselves while learning important life skills.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I shadowed my sister who is a BCBA and I was my nephews care giver for the first year of his life! I used to babysit regularly in high school but I stopped because I went off to college without a car! I’m also a certified substitute teacher, full time volunteer at the public library, I briefly had internships at an elementary school and a daycare, and I am currently working towards getting my Daycare certification!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to express creativity and learning! I believe it’s important for children to have different sensory activities daily and they should go outside when they can! My favorite things to do with older children is turning “boring stuff” into races to encourage them to want to do things like making the bed, reading, cleaning up toys, tying shoes etc. For younger children I usually focus on color, number, letter, and shape recognition or just developing their fine motor skills! When outside, the possibilities are endless! I love to draw with chalk, ride bikes, go for walks, play at the park, etc. I also like to support children’s interests by getting to know them by talking to and observing them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

is being open minded, flexible, patient, and nurturing. Being able to be what the children you nanny for need is always the first priority! I am a very big rule follower but i also do like to have fun and I think it is important to show a nice balance.

My experience with special needs children...

My nephew has high functioning autism and I was his caregiver his first year of life and over ever summer since! I also shadowed my sister who is a BCBA. she specifically works with children that have special needs. I also work as an EC TA and have for about two years now. Since there is no teacher in my classroom I share the role with another TA and we do lesson plans, toileting, and any other personal needs the children have we cater to.
