I worked as a summer camp counselor this summer. There was kids ages 4-15 and I was in classrooms with, at times, 30+ kids under my watch.

I love to read their favorite books, sing silly songs, play their favorite games, arts and crafts, or even just hang out! When it comes to activities I am doing with children, as long as everyone is having fun and being safe then everything is perfect.

The most important part about being a nanny is that I am more than that to the kids. I don’t just want to be their nanny. I should also be their friend. Being there for them as more than just a child care professional is the most important thing to me. I want the kids I work with to be able to feel safe and comfortable around me. They should always feel as if they can come to me and talk about anything they need to.

While working for a before school child care program, there was a little girl who was a cheerleader. Every time she would learn a new routine, she would show up the next day and show me how it went. She always looked so proud of herself afterwards and I was just as proud. It was so cute to see how happy she always was after learning something new.
