The best part about being a babysitter is being trusted by the kids I work with. I babysat for a family of two boys up until they were both in middle school. One day, when the older brother was in seventh grade, he put up a bit of a fight about going to sleep. I asked him if something was wrong, because he had never disagreed about bedtime. We sat down together and he proceeded to tell me about a handful of kids who had scared him pretty badly at school earlier that day. He was a sensitive kid who really hated ghost stories, and other kids took advantage of that. He was scared to go to sleep in his room because it would be dark and the other kids had scared him into thinking something dangerous would happen. He asked to stay downstairs with me. He laid down on the couch, and held my hand until he fell asleep. He knew I would protect him from any monsters.
