A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Allison Bartholomew, and I am a Master's student in School Counseling. I love working with kids of all ages, and have extensive experience in childcare, as a tutor, and as a CNA. During the school year I work during school hours as the Health Clerk at a high school. I can tutor Math, Spanish, Psychology and English at the high school level, and most subjects at the elementary and middle school level. I grew up with seven younger siblings and love babies, toddlers, kids, and teenagers and have experience with all groups. I have spent over a year working with a man with Autism and a seizure disorder a few nights a week, so I also have experience with special needs. I have a car, and am happy to take children to activities and to drive them (within reason). I have several professional references from families I have nannied and babysat for in the past that I would be happy to provide upon request. I am CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed certified.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I work as a Health Clerk at a high school. I also work with a man with disabilities. In the past I have had several long-term babysitting and nannying jobs, and am happy to provide references and contact information for these past families. I work at the summer camp for Elementary Schooler's, Camp Big Springs, and have worked at a Taekwondo summer camp in the past.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love taking kids to the park, cooking with them, and reading with them. I also enjoy doing sports activities and drawing with them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Safety is clearly the first priority. But once that is established, my belief is that being present with the kidsa and being engaged with them is most important. That means listening to how school went, or drawing pictures with them, or letting them help cook. I find too often that adults are disengaged from the children, and don't take the time to listen and care.

My experience with special needs children...

I have not worked with special needs children outside of a short experience teaching a little girl how to swim. But I have worked long term with a man who is very low functioning and had a seizure disorder.
