A little bit about me

Hi! I’m Alyson, and I’m a Reno native! I’ve been a nanny for 10+ years and am currently a nanny and house manager. I graduated from TMCC with my Certified Dental Assisting and an Associate of Liberal Arts. I'm currently finishing my dual bachelor's in education from Western Governors University. Having online schooling lets me have a lot of flexibility in my schedule. I have two dogs, one is very "superior" and the other is a fun dumb lab. I love them.
I am a competitive powerlifter, I love to read and write and have a podcast called, "Disoriented by Alyson Saunders," which covers all things mental health. I was thinking of starting my own nanny podcast, too. It's fun to have something to research and work on. I love being outside; I never knew how healing the sun could be until my most recent years so you can catch me taking a lot of hikes with the dogs and always smelling like sunscreen. Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading! I always try to get a couple of books in every day, as well as a long walk outside or a visit to the park. I like to get a certain amount of sun every day. I really enjoy trips to the library for independent browsing or library story times. We have the Discovery Museum here in Reno and it's very fun, educational, and interesting - even for the adults. I also enjoy taking my crawlers and walkers to Gymboree - where they can meet other kids and parents and also practice their gross motor skills.
To help with fine motor skills, I like to do a lot of painting and coloring. I also encourage a lot of autonomy, with me there as a helping hand.

My experience with special needs children...

I started helping my parents in summer school with their special needs students - they're all special education teachers. I have been a teacher's assistant for the school district helping with deaf and hard of hearing and autism.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moments are those where I can see my hard work paying off, and the child is advancing. Recently, I taught the baby I watch, "What sound does a dog make?" And he responded with, "Woof, woof!" He and I have a secret language. We know to butt our heads together and rub noses. I have taught him to find "Big Bird," and point. All moments with them are special.
