The first summer that I worked Energy Express, I had a child in my class who was eleven and couldn’t read. For the entire summer I had him, I worked with him on site words and writing them out. One morning when the bus dropped them off to our school, the child ran up to me and said “Alyssa! Alyssa! Guess what!?” I replied with “What!?” He said “I was in the car with my mom yesterday, and I could read the stop signs!” Then gave me the warmest hug I have ever gotten. That moment has always stuck with me because I played a part in teaching him something that will always stick with him.
