More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have a sister and brother who are 6 and 8 years younger than me, so I was basically born to be a babysitter! I volunteered in my church’s nursery 1-2x/month (ages 2-5) from 7th-12th grade. I volunteered at a summer camp for kids and adults with special needs 2x/summer. I have a bachelors and doctorate degree, but I am feeling a bit burnt out within my field. The past year I have been a substitute teacher in Portage County because I love working with school aged children!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Outdoor: Nature walks, playgrounds, parks, playing in the backyard, swimming (if a lifeguard is present, just for my peace of mind).
Indoor: Reading (I love local libraries!) arts and crafts, legos, blocks, board games.

My experience with special needs children...
I am comfortable caring for and playing with children with special needs! I am good at making up modified activities for kids that use wheelchairs or walkers, and I understand that many special needs children have specific dietary needs that should be followed. I have the most experience with children with cerebral palsy, autism, adhd, and other developmental delays. I am not as familiar with disabilities that cause strong negative/emotional outbursts. As a substitute teacher I gained experience working with children with ODD, but I would still have much to learn if I were to sit for a child with that condition.
