Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I trained younger kids to debate for NHS in a competition for mock trial. I also used to referee soccer competitions for kids 6 and under. Most of my experience comes from having volunteered to help out at the daycare I lived next to. It is still run by Vanessa Cuellar. She’s a licensed babysitter.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am an artist at heart so my go to activities are usually creative in nature. I love recreating Van Gogh paintings and I’ve found that most kids find them fun to do too. Board games are always amazing, especially clue and monopoly. Ultimately though, I would let the child decide the activity unless it was on a list of things not allowed or just outrageous (illegal activities, jumping off of high objects in an attempt to fly, etc.)
The most important part about being a nanny...
It matters that the kid is comfortable with me and isn’t scared. I want them to be able to come to me with homework or help with their activities.
My experience with special needs children...
I have taken care of children with autism and I generally can avoid most triggers like overstimulation. My brother has ODD, which is a behavioral disorder, and being the eldest I’ve become very good at dealing with outrageous tantrums and bipolar-like mood swings.
