A little bit about me

Hi I am Anna Bocanelli, I recently graduated from Quinnipiac University with a bachelors in behavioral neuroscience. I have always loved working with children, whether I was babysitting or teaching them karate. I have two black belts one in Issinryu and one in Shotokan, and have competed heavily on a national level. I also have worked as an aide in Victor Central Schools since December of 2017 working mostly with children ages 4-7 but have worked up to 12 (grade 6). When at college I also work as an America Reads Tutor with children aged 5 to 12, specifically helping in math. I have a lot of experience working with children, especially those with special needs, and by being a behavioral neuroscience major (biology and psychology) I am confident in my abilities in helping children in need. More recently, I worked as a behavioral specialist in group homes helping people with a wide range of developmental, physical, and or mental disabilities.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Since December 2016 I have worked at Victor Central Schools. I work mostly with children aged 4-7, but have worked up to age 12. I ensure that the children are learning in an upbeat and positive environment as well as make sure their emotional needs are being met.

In Connecticut, I work as an America Reads Tutor where I work with children aged 5-12, specifically aiding in math. I pre teach and re teach to struggling students as well as teach in small groups.

Throughout high school I was apart of the Big Brother Big Sister program, where I mentored a younger child (grade 4-6) and helped them feel safe, happy, and confident in school.

I have also taught karate for 11 years to children as young as 2 to older adults. Having the students trust is key because they need to listen to every detail to ensure they do not get hurt, so building a trust is something I always focus on when working with children. I also work on confidence, because it is needed to be successful.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to play outside as much as possible, but on rainy days I love doing crafts!

My experience with special needs children...

I have a lot of experience working with children with special needs through teaching karate and being an aide/ tutor. I am very patient, calm, and organized. When working with special needs children I always have a plan for them to do their best and pre teach as often as I can. I have worked with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Emotionally Disturbed/ Distressed, ADD/ADHD, Down Syndrome, and more. I have continued gaining experience by working as a behavioral specialist in group homes. I helped support people with a wide range of disabilities.
