I have been a nanny and babysitter all throughout high school as well as worked as a Behavior Technician for children with Autism while in college. I am also currently doing an internship at a Youth Counseling services center for children facing mental health challenges and/or with disabilities.
My experience with special needs children...
From working as a Behavior Technician and through course work at UWEC I have experience with many different needs and abilites. This includes working with children who are non-verbal or have other communication challenges, children with developmental delays, and who require a feeding tube. I also have experience in teaching activities of daily living as well as coping skills and in de-escalation. I believe that all minds are capable of great things and that emphasizing and building off a child's strenghts can really help facilitate positive growth and development.
