The most important part about being a nanny...
Depends on the age of the kids. For babies, it's completely different. But toddlers onwards I'd say communicating clearly and respectfully to the kids so that the kids feel heard and feel safe to ask questions.
My experience with special needs children...
My younger brother has autism, OCD, PICA, dyslexia, ADHD, among a few others, and so I consider myself especially experienced in those areas. His autism/PICA are especially prominent, and while I'm by no means trained or an expert, I do have unique life-long experience with working with my brother and his disabilities. I've also worked as my brothers 'aide,' on field trips since I was fourteen. Growing up, while my parents worked, they usually hired him an aide/nanny who I became very close with and saw as a mentor.
