For me, the most important parts are building trust with a child and getting to know them as individuals. Each child is different, and I try not to speak down to them with a different voice or treat them all the same.
My experience with special needs children...
I don't have specific experience with special needs children beyond the few kids at the daycare I was employed at that were on the spectrum, though it was not many, and we were not given special training.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love being able to distract kids into following direction. When I needed children to follow me in a direction, I would skip or march and they would follow suit. Of course, any time a child fell asleep in my arms my heart would melt a little and I felt the same when receiving any art they had made.
