I have been in classroom set volunteer positions helping kids for the past 5 years. I've done babysitting for 6 years. I currently work volunteer at a preschool for kids with special needs and not, and a 3rd grade class. I will be working for another 3rd grade class Sunday mornings for church.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Imaginative play, educational games, reading, "competitive" play, board and card games.
The most important part about being a nanny...
is being a good influence on the child. Each kid needs a person to look up to, even outside of their parents. I want to help kids learn different social limits and expectations, like how to use manners, interact kindly, and have fun.
My experience with special needs children...
I have only worked with special needs for a short time (2 months) and I'm still learning. The age I work with are 3-5 year olds.
The most important part about being a nanny...
was helping out a 4th grade class for a Halloween event, I got to stick by a child in a blow up dinosaur costume! Each kid had to dress as a "word" and parade around the stadium. His word was "extinct." I got to make sure his health was stable, since he was diabetic, and got to help him put on his silly costume even through a sprained ankle.
