I was an assistant teacher at Grace Playschool from [phone number hidden]. I was also a sleepaway camp counselor at various camps from the summer of [phone number hidden]. Furthermore, I have extensive experience babysitting my 3 nieces and nephews, all of whom are currently under 5.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
My philosophy is that children learn through play and that anything can be made into a game. There are infinite games ready to be played waiting in our heads. Through my experience, I have learned to play with the children as a peer while also maintaining my authority in case the situation suddenly demands it. But overall, I use collaborative fun as a way to learn and accomplish tasks.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with high school-aged special needs students in a theater context. My high school had a program called Corner of the Sky which gave our school's special needs students an opportunity to take center stage and perform whatever they want (song, dance, comedy, etc.) During my sophomore and junior years, I worked as an onstage hand assisting my special needs friends. Then senior year, I took over the club and ran the production myself. It was a very rewarding experience and taught me many valuable lessons about patience, friendship, and what unites us all.
