In my first nanny position in New York, 30+ years ago, the family I worked for was going through a divorce. I cared for 2 young boys, 2 and 5. I remember that the oldest was having a difficult time with his dad not being around and doing outdoor things with him. Not far from their house was a pond. I would take the boys there to check out the frogs, salamander and tadpoles. I one day we found a huge frog and Matthew wanted to take it for show and tell at school. So, we caught it, put it in a shoe box and took it to school. When I arrived that afternoon to pick him up there was a lot of commotion happening in the classroom. One of the teachers ran to meet me and preceded to inform me that the frog had escaped to a corner and no one would pick it up. They were so excited I had arrived so I could get the frog. As soon as I went to get the frog Matthew found his courage and grabbed the frog. All of his friends were so impressed. He had the biggest smile.
