I volunteered in middle school and high school for Big Brothers Big Sisters, then went on to teach preschool/pre-k from [phone number hidden] along with being an assistant director and planning curriculum for all different age levels. I've been a mom since 2014.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities are my favorite! In place of doing crafts with a set of directions to reach a pre-designated end result, I greatly prefer loosely facilitated activities that provide the materials and brainstorming prompt but ultimately allow their interests and creative energy to dictate where their project ends up.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being a safe person for the family to place trust in. Keeping the child safe while respecting their autonomy. Encouraging them to explore potential interests while respecting and engaging their preferences. Understanding the importance of your role, no matter how small, in the child's "village".
My experience with special needs children...
I have personal and professional experience with neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD, DS, ODD, OCD) as well as experience with food allergies/restrictions and medication management.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Technically, I haven't been a nanny before-- but in 2020, I had a baby for friends through surrogacy, which we jokingly referred to as "extreme nannying"!
