Besides babysitting while in high school, then started nannying in 2022 - I attended a small college where I did internships working with children. Middle/High school counselor and then with a community event organizer at UW-Extension in Richland County where I helped with events with all kind of age groups.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I’d say there are many different important things about being a nanny. Have to stay active, creative, being able to think on the spot of something to do to keep busy or if it’s to break up a fight between siblings. To say the most important, I think might be to taking time to understand the children you work with. Understand how they work, their interests, being able to find ways to understand them as a person and their emotions. Communication with children, even if they can’t speak much yet, and with the parents is just as important. You always want to be on the same page - with schedule, maybe the foods they eat, if or when they get sick, etc.
My experience with special needs children...
The experience I have with special needs children, my nephew was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP). He’s almost 3, but since an infant he’s gone through physical therapy. I often times would help with his PT, helping him do things that he needed to like his exercises with legs and hands.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I nannied for this family, they have three kids. At the time they were 9, 5 and 2. They entered the youngest in daycare to interact with other kids after the older two went back to school, leaving me to no longer be needed. I went back and babysat for one day while their parents had a day out. The 5 year old came up to me told me how much he misses me and that because he missed me so much he made his IPad password 2223. At the time I was 22 years old, almost 23. Still to this day, I keep contact with the parents and they mentioned his password is still 2223.
