A little bit about me

Hi my name is Britt and I am from Seattle, Washington and I am currently a senior at SMU. While attending SMU, I’ve regularly babysat for families in the Highland Park area. Two summers ago, I worked at a camp for children with special needs in Washington. In high school, I was a student aide for a young man with disabilities, this turned into a summer job and I continue to spend time with him today. I also regularly spent time with a foster family with four children between the ages of 4 and 10, and I continue to visit them when I’m home. At SMU, I'm part of a club called Mustangs for Hope, where I tutor children from preschool through 6th grade. Growing up with three siblings and many cousins, I’ve had lots of hands-on experience babysitting from a young age. I truly love spending time with kids and helping families however I can!

My experience with special needs children...

In high school, I was a Special Needs Student Aide, which became a summer job supporting a young man. I assisted him in his at-home daily tasks while also engaging in activities such as visiting parks, zoos, aquariums, and various educational outings, including interactive learning experiences and scavenger hunts. I also have two younger cousins and one older with disabilities who’ve taught me patience, empathy, and love. In Summer 2024, I worked as an Inclusion Specialist at a children’s camp, rotating between sites to ensure each child felt welcomed and included. We adapted activities, provided one-on-one support, and created inclusive programming. I developed leadership, communication, and organizational skills while working with a team. Every child brought a new perspective, and seeing them grow in confidence made the work deeply rewarding.
