The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is being able to safely multitask. A nanny must be able to manage the emotions of the children while simultaneously keeping them physically safe and cared for.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with children with autism through my time in public education. I have also been a volunteer through Camp Easter Seals where I provided daily and overnight care to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The most important part about being a nanny...

On one occasion when I was running inventory before prepping lunch for two children (4F and 7M) with very specific food preferences, I noticed the house was out of bread. Both requested sandwiches daily. I offered the children a choice of running by a grocery store, or baking a loaf of bread together. The younger child was ecstatic, but the older child was unconvinced it could be done. When the loaf emerged from the oven, their opinions had instantly switched! As the younger child began to head toward a melt down, the older child became increasingly excited. Upon further conversation with the younger child, I revealed the issue-- She believed the whole loaf was made of "crust," because she hadn't seen the slices cut yet! When the bread was finally sliced, Both children ate their sandwich happily. I loved creating a memory of collaboration and exploration in the kitchen!
