More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
A teacher at a preschool.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Activities I enjoy doing with children include but are not limited to playing games like hide and seek or tag outside, playing with Legos indoors, building blanket forts, and playing board games.
The most important part about being a nanny...
In my opinion, the most important part of being a nanny is setting the kids up for success. Whether that's teaching them how to regulate emotions, or different names for colors, shapes, etc. Or even generally answering questions (at an age-appropriate level). I think it's so important not to just give general care to children, but then to teach them how to help themselves too so they're not JUST reliant on adults (again to whatever degree is age-appropriate for that particular kid.)
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with Autistic children before and even had a hand in teaching them the basic vocabulary of American Sign Language so that they could better communicate with myself and his caregivers.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Seeing the kids I nanny take the things I teach them and apply them without me having to direct them.
I teach the kids that I nanny to take a breath to self regulate when they feel a lot of but emotions, not so they ignore those emotions, but so that they can better work through those emotions.
There was a time when I was having a bad day and I was getting really frustrated and the little boy I was nannying at the time very softly and quietly went, "take a breath, take a breath" before taking a couple deep breaths. A couple of weeks after that I saw him do the same for a little girl I was nannying alongside him. It makes me so happy and proud to know that the things I teach are genuinely being understood and then utilized all on their own meaning those lessons stuck. Ah! Not me getting teary while I write this. 🤣 But yeah needless to say these were two of my favorite moments of nannying this little boy.
