More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have experience with working in a daycare, babysitting, nannying and volunteering with children through a non-profit organization. When I was in high school, I was offered a position as a student worker in the daycare in my high school. This daycare is for teachers to have childcare in their work place and also for early childhood students to do rotations through the different classrooms. I worked this job my junior and senior year and also gained several babysitting jobs. Also, through this job I earned my "Center- Based Certification" for completing over 100 hours on the clock. I also got my first summer nanny job through being a student worker. I have also been a nanny for a few other children but my last job was for a 4 year old little girl. I provided transportation, planned activities, prepared meals, and got her ready for bedtime. As far as volunteering with children, I volunteered with the non-profit Christian based organization, Franktown Open Hearts.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I LOVE to get outside with the kids. Whether its going on a walk, going swimming, kicking a soccer ball, having a lunch picnic..ANYTHING! My theory is, as long as it is nice out, we are out. But, we cannot stay outside all day. When we are inside, I like to have some age appropriate crafts on hand to keep their minds stimulated and not sitting in front of the TV. I also really enjoy when the children want to help me cook meals and I love to see how proud of theirselves they are when they crack an egg or mix in all of the ingredients (I handle all of the stove and oven.) As a reword for good behavior, I like to get out the stools for them to stand on and help make a special treat for us to bake and enjoy. Another thing I love about working with children is the sweet conversations. Those are by far the best bonding moments for me and they are so special to me. :)
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I started thinking about the most important part of being a nanny, I could not single it down to just one thing. First of all, I feel that it is very important for me to have a good relationship with the family. I have learned that this is a very important factor in being a nanny because it allows for open communication and for the family being comfortable for me to be in their house and for me to be comfortable in their house. The second thing that is very important to me is engaging with the children. By this, I mean, getting outside, doing art projects, reading books, etc. I do not believe in using the iPad and TV to entertain the children. I am there to do a job. As a nanny, I also try to be sure that I am on the same page with the parents as far as discipline goes. Of corse, there are times that I have to use my own discretion on what should be disciplined on and what not to but, I always talk to the parents about how they would like for me to handle certain situations.
My experience with special needs children...
I have had a few experiences working with special needs children and I can honestly say, I think I have learned more from them they would learn from me. My most recent was a long term babysitting job for an essential worker during quarantine for a 10 year old boy on the high end of the Autism spectrum but had some issues with handling his actions. But, he also blows my mind when he does his science experiments and explains things to me that I would have never even thought about. I also watch a 4 year old with Autism who is a sweetheart and amazes me with how much he knows for being so young! The biggest thing I have learned about working with children with Autism is not trigger them by discipline but to get on their level and ask, "How can I help you?)
The most important part about being a nanny...
My absolutely most favorite memory of being a nanny was being given the honor of picking up the two little boys I watched from daycare the day that their sweet baby sister was born. Although they were not so thrilled in the beginning about having a sister, it was so exciting for them when we pulled up to their house and I got a picture from their dad of their new addition to the family. I was the first one to show them the picture of their baby sister and the look on their faces were priceless! They were so happy and my eyes were filled with happy tears!
