A little bit about me

Hi! I’m Carissa Heminger, a dedicated caregiver and current Intervention Specialist in a Students with Disabilities (SWD) Unit classroom at Indian Lake Elementary. I’ve been working in education since 2023, first as a classroom aide and now as a licensed teacher since 2024. I am looking for a change of pace, and am excited to nanny part time! My experience includes supporting children with diverse needs in schools, summer camps, church programs, and in-home nannying.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and I’m in the process of renewing my CPR & First Aid certification (previously certified within the past 3 years).
I’m creative, patient, and passionate about helping kids grow through structured routines, play, and positive attention. I love rollerskating, painting, camping, yoga, singing, and playing the cello, and I enjoy sharing those interests with the kids I care for!
Your child will be in gentle, capable hands. I’d love to connect and see if we’re a good fit!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have diverse child care experience, including one year nannying a 3-month-old, providing nurturing care and early development support. I’ve also worked as an aide in a special education classroom and a teacher in an SWD Unit since 2024. My background includes leading summer camp programs, providing church child care, and nannying two boys (ages 4 to 8) during high school. These roles have honed my skills in creative play, routine management, and building strong relationships with kids and parents.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I focus on providing physically and mentally stimulating, age-appropriate activities that foster growth and development. For infants, I introduce color and sound recognition and teach basic sign language to support early communication. As children grow, I incorporate singing, dancing, outdoor play, and hand-eye coordination games to promote motor skills and creativity. I also love engaging in arts and crafts and functional activities that encourage imagination and independence. Whether through interactive play or learning through exploration, I strive to create a balanced, fun, and enriching experience for every child.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where children feel valued and understood. This means more than just looking after their physical needs — it's about fostering emotional well-being, supporting developmental milestones, and being a positive role model. A great nanny is someone who can build strong, trusting relationships with both the children and their families, ensuring the child’s growth, learning, and happiness are always at the forefront.

My experience with special needs children...

I have extensive experience working with children with diverse abilities, particularly in my role as an Intervention Specialist in a Students with Disabilities (SWD) Unit. Since 2024, I’ve worked closely with students to provide individualized academic support and behavioral interventions. I have experience with children who have a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders. My approach focuses on creating a structured, supportive environment while fostering independence and self-esteem. I use positive reinforcement techniques, visual supports, and sensory-friendly activities to tailor each child’s experience and promote their success.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my most cherished moments as a nanny was when the infant I was caring for, who had just begun to babble, suddenly said “dada” several times in a row at dinner time. It was such a sweet and heartwarming moment, especially because he was saying it for his single dad, who had just come home from work. The joy and pride on both their faces when he recognized and called out to his father for the first time was unforgettable. It truly reminded me how special it is to be a part of those milestone moments in a child’s life.
