Bring a mother of 3 children-has enriched my life. I enjoy taking care of children and have worked as a nurse the past 8 years taking care of special needs children. Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I’ve been a nurse for over 30 years My most recent experience were taking care of special needs children in their homes and at times going to school with them. I’m very intuitive and very safety oriented. I really enjoy being around all ages of children and love hearing their laughter and appreciate their inquisitive minds and honesty.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy playing board games and doing puzzles and making learning fun as well as playing in the sand or making mud pies. I also love books so reading to children and helping them learn to read is enjoyable. I enjoy nature and sharing the beauty and mystery with children. I’ve enjoyed swimming as well as wading in streams to catch frogs with some of my clients. And I’m very good at keeping them safe and their environment clear of potential hazards.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe the most important thing about being a nanny is first keeping the child or children safe and having the opportunity to enrich their lives. And at the end of the day how many smiles you shared and laughter was heard which makes one’s time spent with children invaluable.

My experience with special needs children...

Ive cared for children with many physical as well mental and emotional challenges. Some of the children I cared for were nonverbal and required good intuitive skills to understand what they were unable to say. A lot of the children I cared for had special nutritional needs so tube feds were necessary and the dispensing of their medications via g-tubes. Monitoring of their vital signs through the day as well as the giving of oxygen when necessary. I had to do dressing changes as well as diapers and constant monitoring of skin to prevent breakdown in those children who were bed bound. I’ve helped children with homework via computer when not able to attend school. And it was important to maintain good communication with parents so the child’s changing needs could continue to be met.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my most memorable moments was when I was with my client who was about 10 and non verbal said my name and asked me how I was. I was totally amazed and over the years on very rare occasions he would say one or two words but not like he did the first time which still amazes me to this day.
