The most important part about being a nanny...
I always look at it as if someone were watching my children. If I wouldn't be ok with someone watching my kids, I wouldn't want a parent to have to settle for a sitter. The most important thing to me is to make sure the parents are getting the help them and their children deserve, they're happy, healthy, and safe. I absolutely love that children are the most pure and real people that exist on this planet.
My experience with special needs children...
I raised my 13 year old sister. She has epilepsy and is mentally delayed. My daughter was born 3 months early, was in the NICU the first 3 months, learned how to handle the machines, oxygen tanks and accessories, tube feedings, developmental and milestone encouragement, and all-around proper preemie care. I also have extensive experience in handling situations related to mental health. If you have any questions or if there's anything I haven't listed that may be relevant, feel free to ask me.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It may not sound like a great memory, but it is in a way. I was caring for 3 children who were in the care of unfit parents (will not be named). The mother was an extreme alcoholic and I would almost always be with the children to ensure they were safe. One day, the mother was intoxicated, the father was abusive and shown up screaming at them (he did not live there). I had just returned to the house with all 3 children when it had happened. I was forced to make the decision to take the children away from the situation and we went to the playground down the street (the parents already knew). They went from tears to laughs. We played tag, catch, had the dog with us, then went to the local ice cream place and I got them a nice treat. By the time I brought them back, the mother was asleep, the father left, and the kids were happy and safe. I would do anything for those kids till this day. They are wonderful and didn't deserve to be exposed to that. They are now in a safe home.
