A little bit about me

I was born in 1975 and the proud mother of a daughter born in 2009.. I have been taking care of children and animals my entire life. I started taking care of babies when I was only 8 years old after my brother was born. When I was 10, my mother opened an in-home daycare. I worked for her taking care of infants and young children after school and in the summer. At 15, I got my first nanny position as a summer job for 3 children who were newborn, 2 and 4 yrs at the time. As an adult, I have worked at multiple daycare facilities and schools as a teacher, as well as working as a personal nanny and sitter for many Austin professionals, including doctors, therapists, even a child advocate, etc. I made A's in Child Development & Educating Young Children classes in college.
I'm also a professional pet sitter. I'm happy to incorporate pet care if needed. I have lots of certifications (including safety and Montessori), great reviews and LOR's in addition to what's on this website.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am an experienced professional child care provider working in the field for 3 1/2+ decades. I have worked as a preschool teacher at several daycares and schools, as well as a nanny and regular sitter for dozens of professional Austin families over the years. I also worked at the YMCA for several years as a children’s sport and dance instructor. I took classes in Child Development as well as Educating Young Children in college and made A's. I have several certifications including in Montessori education and the outdoor classroom. I have extensive experience with newborns, all the way up to high school age children. I've worked with special needs children and also children with medical needs. I love animals, do professional Pet Sitting and I'm comfortable working with all types of pets and incorporating them into my daily childcare routine. I have multiple certifications for pet care as well. I help parents optimize the potential for success and well-being for the entire family.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to encourage all types of play including Art, games (not video games), construction toys, puzzles, water play, sand/dirt, reading book, and whatever healthy activities they are interested in. I am always incorporating learning with play. This includes basic life skills like how to communicate properly, manners, emotional regulation and social etiquette.
I like to find ways to make creative play educational as well. During art projects or games, I can incorporate learning colors, numbers and vocabulary etc.
Going outside is important whenever possible for the fresh air, sunshine and physical activity. I like to take kids for walks, or to a park close by, or hang out in the backyard with them while they explore their options. I take him into consideration the individual child's needs and desires and do my best to orchestrate my workday and away that is fun, healthy, educational and that will help ensure a successful and happy future for the entire family, pets included.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Caring for, and protecting children is the most important work on the planet. Every parent or child care provider that takes good care of a child is a hero to the world. As a parent, myself, and a single mother, at that, it is priceless knowing that you can trust and rely on someone to, not only provide care, but willingly give love to a child, just for being a child.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with multiple special needs children. One of which was diagnosed with Asperger’s. I started caring for him at four years old, and continued into his middle school years, where I even cared for his baby brother as well. He was basically nonverbal in the beginning and was having a lot of frustration trying to communicate with his parents and caregivers. I taught him several words in sign language that he could use to tell me how he was feeling and what he wanted. This improved his quality of life dramatically! I also do this for nonverbal typical children as well, at least until they are old enough to speak the words clearly.

In addition to special needs, I have also cared for children with medical conditions that do not affect their cognitive abilities. One baby had a severe skin condition, another had an eating disorder. Their lives were improved significantly in my care.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have to say, it never gets old when a child tells me that I am their favorite babysitter/teacher. Although I do not have a favorite particular nanny moment, in general, my favorite nanny moments are when I can see significant progress in a child's behavior or education from my work with them. It feels me full of pride for the child and for my ability to help them. It's so much fun to share pictures and experiences with the parents throughout the day so that they can take part in that developmental process and all of the special milestones that the child makes as they grow. I also really appreciate when parents express their gratitude for my expertise and affectionate care. As an animal lover, I love playing with/loving on the family pets, or even providing some training techniques that can help with behavior issues, as well as advice that can help with health and well-being in general for both the pets and the children. Getting unsolicited affection from either is priceless!
