More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I’ve cared for children in several different roles over the years. I worked in an Early Head Start classroom with infants and toddlers in a dual immersion setting, taught elementary art, and worked as a reading aide and substitute teacher. Each experience taught me something different, and I think they’ve all helped me become a more patient and well-rounded nanny. I really enjoy helping kids learn through everyday life, creativity, and especially time outside.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I’m happiest when we’re outside exploring. We might go on a bug hunt, collect leaves, plant flowers, splash in puddles, visit a park, or simply take a walk and see what we notice. At home I love reading together, making art, baking, building forts, playing pretend, and letting kids help with everyday things like cooking or watering plants. I think curiosity is one of the best teachers!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is building trust. I want children to feel safe enough to explore, ask questions, get messy, laugh, and know there’s always someone in their corner. And I love being able to support parents, too. If I can make their day a little easier so they have more time and energy to enjoy their children, that’s a wonderful feeling. I really, truly believe that I found my calling in life, or rather.. it found me.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked one-on-one many days with a nonverbal child with autism while I was at Early Head Start. That experience taught me that behavior is a form of communication. Slowing down, being present, and paying attention to patterns can tell you so much about what a child is trying to express. Every child is different, and I enjoy taking the time to understand who they are and what they need. And there’s nothing that feels as good as gaining the love and trust and becoming a safe place for a child.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Every day brings a new favorite moment, but this one always makes me smile. One of the first girls I nannied told me she wanted to go on a boat. With her parents’ blessing (of course) we bought a little raft, packed a picnic lunch, and paddled out to a tiny island on a nearby lake. On the drive home she looked out the window and said, “I love my world.” I’ll never forget that. 💕
