My experience with special needs children...
I babysat a child on the spectrum with medical issues when I was in highschool. He was 4 years old. He really loved having lots of attention and someone to play with.
I have a younger brother I used to babysit quite frequently. He is on the spectrum. When I did things for him (even refilling a sippy cup) it had to be done in a specific way to prevent meltdowns. He had difficulty communicating so there was a lot of patience and 'getting on his level' to make sure he felt understood.
