I've been a daycare worker for children 3 months to toddler age, assistant taught in preschools, and nannied for a 1 and 6 year old. I now have a little one of my own I care for as a stay-at-home mom!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Coloring, puzzles, taking walks, going to a park, gardening, singing, and generally whatever the child loves to do or is interested in.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Having heart. Truly getting to know the child and being someone he/she can trust. As a nanny, you are a part of that child's day, week and life. It isn't just about checking off a list of things to do that day. It's about being a care provider, and a friend.
My experience with special needs children...
I have assistant taught and on occasion subbed in for a lead teacher in a couple classrooms with 1 special needs child in attendance per classroom. Other than that, my experience has been limited.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It's hard to pick just one. I would often go to Hobby Lobby for unique crafts and activities for the kids. I found these white garden stepping stones that came in all kinds of different shapes, flowers or animals. The one year old just loved to make a mess with paint, but the six year old thought the stones were the coolest thing he had ever seen. I would always be on the lookout for fun things like that to do.
