A little bit about me

Hello! I've been taking care of children for the past 13 years and I love it. I've worked mostly in childcare centers where I've cared for every age group from newborns to 12 year olds.

I recently moved here with my husband for his job and am looking to find something different from a childcare center but I still want to work with children, so I figured being a nanny would be perfect!

We moved here to be closer to family. We don't have children ourselves so I had to be close to my two nephews to spoil them properly!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love reading, playing games(video and board), playing outside, going for nature walks, gardening, lots of things! I can, and like to, get down on the children's level to play. I feel like that's where the most teaching can happen because they feel like they are equal not being talked down to. Playing Legos, coloring, play dough, I do it all when it comes to crafting. I crochet as a hobby so i like making things with my hands and keeping them busy.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Patience and care are the most important. Every child has their ups and downs. Every child will act out at some point. It's my job as a nanny to help that child by finding out the cause and helping them understand and work through their feelings. To help them become better people by teaching them how to manage and deal with those frustrations.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for children with Autism disorders, a girl who suffered from seizures, a boy who was allergic to LOTS of different foods, a boy with Oppositional Defiance Disorder, plus some others. I am open to working with children with special needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I feel like the best moment I ever had with a child would be when this girl was just having a TERRIBLE morning. I had a child in my class (she was 3 at the time) who was having a tantrum after mom dropped her off. Mom put her in the room and told me she was "being aweful and a brat." I could see her daughter wasn't the only one having a bad day. I went over to her to try and calm her down but she was having none of it. I got out her favorite blocks and put them on the table hoping that if she saw them maybe she would calm down and play. Still nothing just tantrum. After about 10 minutes I just went up to her and sat down next to her and told her " I know you're having a bad day, you're not bad though. Sometimes mommy's have bad days too. I bet if we made mommy a pretty picture she'd have a much better day when she see's you this afternoon. What do you think?" She calmed down and shook her head yes and her day was uphill from there. Sometimes you have to read a situation.
