More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been working as a Registered Nurse for the last ten years. I became a mama to my son 12/2020 . I worked part time in the hospital for the first two years of his life and had a stay at home mama caring for him part time when my husband and my schedules overlapped. I have provided child care swap with local family’s children over the last few years for local friends to be able to do date night swaps and my mama friends to get a day to themselves. Prior to becoming a nurse, I was a nanny for a family for three years while I was in college. I cared for the two children, starting at 7 months and 3 years and was with that family for a duration of three years. Prior to that, I held many paid babysitting jobs as a teenager and in my early twenties. I grew up in a family of four, being the second oldest sibling, and my sister is six years younger than me and my younger brother and I are twelve years apart. When my baby brother came around, my parents had a built in babysitter.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
As a mama, I am passionate about Montessori, Waldorf, and nature based play. I believe in letting children safely have freedom to explore in the natural world - especially allow children to help in the garden, outdoor sensory play in sand and water. My son loves a good sandbox and will stay entertained for an hour there. I like to “suggest” ideas for children outdoors and then give them independence to explore and see where their mind leads them. I have a passion for art - I love letting my son and his friends get their hands in finger paints and watercolors, sidewalk chalk art, sensory craft play with glitter and pom poms. I love to rotate books in our shelf every few weeks at the library to engage current interests and indulge new curiosities. Walks around the neighborhood and exploring seasonal changes in a familiar environment is one of my favorite things to do. I also love to welcome the little hands on the kitchen, safely, as I have found that toddlers love to have a job and help
The most important part about being a nanny...
I want to actively be the role model in my kids life and hope to be that for another family as well. I feel that the early childhood years are the most impressionable, and being a part of a child’s support, care, and upbringing is a very important role. During the first four to five years of age, Children learn attachment styles and coping skills that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives - The most important part about being a nanny is to provide a secure and safe relationship that other children can count on when their other primary caretakers are not present. Also creating a consistent routine and being able to be emotionally available to each child’s unique needs is an important role a nanny plays on each child’s life.
My experience with special needs children...
Outside of being a nurse, I do not have professional experience with special needs children. Although, my younger brother grew up at a young age very misunderstood and misdiagnosed - he was thought to have several atypical behavior conditions. Being a teenager and as my brother got a bit older, being a young adult, I lived in a household with a “special needs” child who had poor impulse control and was constantly getting let go of schools and unable to regulate his emotions. I have first hand experience with this and know the emotional difficulties that arise for both the child and the caretaker with a child who has atypical behavior.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love when toddlers get into the chasing each other phase and are so deliriously happy that they are running after each other in sync and laughing. It is the best when two close toddlers switch the role from leader to chaser and see how the roles reverse. Such a fun age and such joy to watch
