More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was an After Care Counselor for St. George's Independent School in Germantown, TN for 3 years. I worked with children ages 1 through 6th grade and I also have experience working with special needs children.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Depending on the age, activities can range. However, I love to be creative. Typically I will look on Pinterest to find crafts that we can do for an hour (give or take), typically in the morning, to get their day started off in a fun way. If it is pretty outside, we will go to the park or a playground so they can get exercise while also enjoying their time. If it is cold/storming/etc outside, we will stay indoors and read, do an indoor scavenger hunt, and much more. I also have experience with remote learning and tutoring for all ages. If the child is older, around teenage years or pre-teen age, I normally communicate with the parents/guardians beforehand to understand what their typical day looks like. I then ask them if they would like to join us for a craft (something more difficult as they are older and it helps to stimulate their minds) or if they would like to do something else during this time.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Making sure that the children are happy and engaged. Depending on the age, they may need a nap during the day, but before and after the nap I like to make the day as enjoyable as possible. It is also important to make sure that the family and children are shown that they can trust you, and for you to show each of them the utmost kindness and respect. Checking in throughout the day with the parent is key, as most parents like to see what their children are doing and if there is anything the parent/guardian needs them to do while I am there.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children with Aspergers, ID/DD, ADHD, Down syndrome, and physically handicapped children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment(s) are when the two boys I babysat for would be waiting at the door for me to arrive every morning so that we could get our day started. One time in particular we went outside during mid-morning and grabbed a couple of smooth rocks and used their washable paint to paint whatever they wanted on the rocks. The youngest painted his and while he was not able to fully write anything out at the time, he painted on it, handed it to me, and said "I love you Claire! This is for you." Although it seems like a small instance, it showed me that I was creating a bond with the children and that they enjoyed spending time with me throughout the day.

I have always loved working with children, for as long as I can remember- even when I was a kid myself. I have always believed that children were the best teachers. You can learn so many things from child and every child is so different. I did nursery work when I was in high school and recently, I've been thinking so heavily about going back to childcare v.bvjgk
